Ahhh, the view!

Dec. 11, 2008
After a few weeks of being wrapped up...

it was wonderful to be able to see out of the house again.
On Thursday, dec 11th we came "home" to see all but 2 of our windows had been installed.
It was nice working this weekend while enjoying the view again.

And as for the view we came home to thursday night...I STILL have a smile on my face!

If I am this excited over windows...the coming months can only get better.

Two of our windows had to be sent back for repairs but we should have them back within a week.

Put the ledger board up for our future deck in preparation of the siding being installed soon.

Garage Doors

Nov28th-30th
We installed all 3 of the garage doors over the holiday weekend.
I started cleaning up our "yard" now that we can store extra lumber inside the garage.

Concrete

Nov. 24th & 25th
On Monday, the concrete was poured for the basement

and the garage was poured on tuesday.

We started assembling garage doors on Thursday.

We took time out of our busy day to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and be very thankful for all the wonderful help we have had on the house thus far...including the help we had on Thanksgiving Day.
I was especially thankful for my wonderful husband... Happy Birthday Honey!!

In-floor heat

Nov. 21st-23rd
We installed in-floor heat in the basement & garage this past week.

Over half a mile of tubing was stapled to foam insulation

Concrete was poured this past Monday & Tuesday.

Wrapped up...literally

Nov 15th & 16th
Added housewrap all the way up..
and all the way around.
Doors & windows are covered so we really shouldn't have to shovel snow out of our house again.
Started working on the in-floor heat for basement & garage in the evenings.

Autumn, what Autumn?

Nov. 8th and 9th
It's amazing what one week will do to the Minnesota weather. Once again we were cleaning snow out of our house. We will now have to modify some of our plans to abide by the weather.
The wind has been our worst enemy. It has delayed shingling, sheathing, and makes for terribly cold working conditions.
Because of snow on the roof, we had to hold off on shingling, so we finished the wall sheathing and started the house wrap.
Are we still having fun?

...Yep!

It's been great getting together
with friends while still
making accomplishments.
We appreciate everyone's help!

Shingles

Oct. 31st, Nov 1st & 2nd
We started the shingling process last thursday.
Angles, Angles, Angles!
Need I say more?! Each shingle that goes up near the valley needed to be cut at an angle.

The weather was absolutely beautiful on the weekend.
When we finished up Sunday night, we had 1/2 of the house shingled.
Monday the wind gust prevented us from working but on tuesday Nov. 4th we fought the wind and put up a few more shingles.

Because of our wonderful friends that came to help, we were able to get lots of work done and have fun too!!
Is he working or playing?!

A blend of work & weather

Oct 24th, 25th & 26th
All the trusses for the front entrance went up on friday afternoon.
Saturday we continued roof sheathing for the garage and south side of house.
With a high of 61 degrees, it was a great day for working on the roof.
Sunday was the opposite. A high of 30 degrees. Sustained winds 40-50 mph with gusts over 60 mph, and... um... snow.
About half an inch of it.
We officially had our first blizzard. We hope that's the last time we have to shovel snow out of our kitchen!

Movin right along...

Oct 20th & 21st
More roof sheathing went up on Monday.
Tuesday we finished building trusses for the front entry.
We put one of the trusses up, along with some sheathing on the front wall.
Rain and colder temps are predicted for the next couple of days.
But we hope the weekend will bring more sunshine and beautiful weather!

Fascia & Roof Sheathing

Oct. 18th & 19th
Wow, what a weekend!
Saturday was like working in the Arctic tundra.
It was very cold and very very windy.

Sunday everybody came prepared to work as if the temps were like Saturday. We even had chili and hot chocolate ready...
but by noon everyone had stripped down to tee shirts and it was HOT!
I guess that's Minnesota weather for ya!

We are always able to get so much done when our fearless friends are around. They climb to the tops of the trusses as if they're walking on flat ground. We are very lucky to have friends like them.
