Tile and Countertops Completed

July 27th, 28th & 29th, 2009
By Tuesday afternoon, all the tile had been completed.

The tub and shower tile look wonderful!

We installed the Masterbath Cabinets on Tuesday and the countertops were installed on Wednesday.
Kitchen Cabinets were completed and also ready for the countertop.

It's unbelievable how this room can look so different in just a few days!

After all the hours we spent staining and finishing the baseboard and door trim, we were finally able to see some of it installed.

Wow, They are absolutely beautiful! 3 of the doors were installed on Wednesday.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the sanding, conditioning, staining, more sanding, poly, more poly etc.

Tile, Doors & Cabinets

July 25th & 26th, 2009
On Friday, the shower and tub walls were tiled.

On Saturday, I measured, taped and painted the tan stripe in the little bathroom. Besides needing a few touch-ups, it turned out pretty good.

STILL polyurethaning doors and other misc. wood pieces.

...just when we think we are done with the staining and polyurethane....The 20 ft. skirtboards and handrail for the stairs are delivered.

Worked on kitchen cabinets all weekend. Countertops are being delivered and installed in just a few days.

Hardwood Floor & Black Oak Trim

July 26th, 2009

Finished the hardwood flooring.

Stained more wood black and trimmed out the stairway along the edge of the travertine. Now, I can't wait to have the carpet installed and see it all together.

Yesterday the tile guys put up the waterproof membrane and started the bottom row of shower tiles.

Travertine and Ceramic tile

July 20th, 2009
Built a frame around the tub for tiling.

The guys hired to do the tiling, put down the remaining hardibacker board in the rooms to be tiled.

Then Travertine was put in the kitchen.

Pantry & little bathroom had tiles cut, spaced out & ready for the next day.

July 21st
Day 2, Travertine in the laundry room.
It looks wonderful!

The Master bath floor was also done today.

The shower bed was poured....

July 22nd
..and the next day, they tiled the floor.

We have a deck!!

July 17th-19th, 2009

On Saturday, the Front Entry deck was started

...and Josh was determined to finish it before the day was over!

So at 12:43 a.m they finished!

We may have all been tired but it looks really nice.
Thanks Josh!

We began hanging kitchen cabinets. Of course the first one is the biggest, heaviest and the most awkward shaped so it took longer than we expected.

Installed the black pine flooring in the sitting room. Everything was going great until the nailer we rented for the weekend quit working.

All the door trim and baseboard trim has been polyurethaned.

The stair kicks needed to be put on before the carpet install.
The steps look so much nicer and hopefully less dirt will go down into the basement.

Step lights were wired and cover plates went on.
Plumbing was turned on, tested the pipes for leaks. After a few minor repairs, it was time to fill the whirlpool tub. No, not for a bath...brrrr, still no hot water hooked up. But rather per manufacturer instruction it needed to be filled. :)

Thanks to everyone who helped us this weekend!!

One Fixture at a time...

July 11th & 12th, 2009
One fixture at a time..as the time allows.
Master Bedroom light was installed.

Tub Faucet was set.

Determined exact location of the tub, set it, shimmed it and ran plumbing for the drain and faucet.

All of the Pine Door Casing was stained with one coat each of Dark Walnut and one coat Ebony.

I started applying the first coat of polyurethane to a few door casings. I'm hesitant to start this process because it's important to have a smooth finish. Must try to avoid having air bubbles, brush marks, drip lines etc.

As if the 11 pine doors and roughly 50 pieces of pine door casing wasn't enough fun to stain and poly, we decided to do the baseboard trim in black pine also.

But my mom did over 1/2 of them in one day. At that pace, it won't take long to finish.
....I wonder if she will volunteer to do the polyurethane finishing also?!?! =)

Hardibacker & Sitting Room platform

July 3rd, 4th & 5th, 2009

We had a 3 day weekend because of the 4th of July Holiday, so we worked on laying all the hardibacker board in the kitchen, foyer and guest bathroom.

Measure, cut, spread mortar, set the cement board in place, Nail approx 15 nails per sheet.

Then come back and spread mortar on the seams. Oh, what an exciting job!

But what really was exciting was building the platform for the sitting area.

This area will have black pine hardwood flooring installed. I have been very excited to see this space come together.

In between the big jobs, more doors were stained...

misc. light fixtures installed...

and outlets and light switches installed as time allows.
