A blend of work & weather

Oct 24th, 25th & 26th
All the trusses for the front entrance went up on friday afternoon.
Saturday we continued roof sheathing for the garage and south side of house.
With a high of 61 degrees, it was a great day for working on the roof.
Sunday was the opposite. A high of 30 degrees. Sustained winds 40-50 mph with gusts over 60 mph, and... um... snow.
About half an inch of it.
We officially had our first blizzard. We hope that's the last time we have to shovel snow out of our kitchen!

Movin right along...

Oct 20th & 21st
More roof sheathing went up on Monday.
Tuesday we finished building trusses for the front entry.
We put one of the trusses up, along with some sheathing on the front wall.
Rain and colder temps are predicted for the next couple of days.
But we hope the weekend will bring more sunshine and beautiful weather!

Fascia & Roof Sheathing

Oct. 18th & 19th
Wow, what a weekend!
Saturday was like working in the Arctic tundra.
It was very cold and very very windy.

Sunday everybody came prepared to work as if the temps were like Saturday. We even had chili and hot chocolate ready...
but by noon everyone had stripped down to tee shirts and it was HOT!
I guess that's Minnesota weather for ya!

We are always able to get so much done when our fearless friends are around. They climb to the tops of the trusses as if they're walking on flat ground. We are very lucky to have friends like them.

Porch Columns and Front Entry

Oct. 12th & 13th
Five post went up for the overhang and front entrance.

The decorative wood work will be added in the spring.

Basement Plumbing

Oct. 8th
A quick plumbing job prior to pouring the concrete floor in the basement.

More backfill added to north side of the house.
This should make it easier to set up scaffolding.

Porch Columns & Window Well

October 3rd-5th
On Friday, we started putting up Fascia boards.
Holes were dug for five load bearing columns needed for front entrance & garage.
Each hole was dug to 4 feet, then cardboard tubes inserted.
Concrete was mixed and poured into each tube.

The basement window well on the northside was installed,
followed by pea rock & black dirt.

Eventually more dirt will need to be backfilled,
level with the window well.

We couldn't have done all this without help.
Thanks guys!!
